The Cat Lovers Club
For many years there has always been a Cat Lovers Club here at Albany
High School. In fact we just found out that the club was started around
1960 by Patricia Kalin and Carol Odegard (sp). They used to bring
their performing cats to school and would show them off to other students
at noontime in the field area. Patricias' cat was trained to jump through
a flaming hoop, and could roll over and over and over on her command.
Some thought that the long whip and the chair that she used was somewhat
of an overkill on the dramatic side, but her cat would growel and swipe
her paw at Patricia just like the big lions and tigers. I believe
that Pat and her performing cat are in a picture in the '61 or'62
yearbook. Well now days we just get together with our cats, and have
a quiet luncheon and beauty contest every 3rd Friday at noon. One
member is always scheduled to bring their favorite cat friend to our
luncheon meeting. We treat the cat to a gourmet meal, and admire and
pet it. The honored cat always has our special silk pillow upon which
to lie, and as a rule they look very regal.
Last week Mathilda Ames '99 brought Cuddles. Cuddles was
quite charming, and was very well mannered.
Mathilda gave us some of his history, and we had a special cat-nip
treat for Cuddles. We thinks CATS are the greatest! They are such
good friends, and NEVER tell your secrets.
